| Fondation Bienfaisance & Mouvement des Jeunes de Campeche Summer 2005 Soccer Tournament - (Championnat pour la Paix) |
Fondation Bienfaisance in collaboration with “Mouvement des Jeunes de Campeche” organized the Summer 2005 Soccer
Tournament. The tournament serves many important purposes; one central purpose is to bring Fondation Bienfaisance
and the many communities of Morne l’Hospital closer. The tournament also serves as a medium to propagate important
health and behavior modification messages to the youth. Soccer tournaments, health fairs, seminars and conferences,
arts and cultural expressions promotions are primary components of the Fondation’s community outreach program.
These projects and undertakings constitute one sure way to keep the youth of these poor neighborhoods involved in
positive activities. The closing of schools and the end of the academic year on Tuesday June 14, 2005 resulted in idle
time for the youth. This inactivity can be easily be swayed; these areas are void of social activities. Fondation
Bienfaisance chose to emphasize the positive and offered options.
As a matter of records, we will point out that the organizing committee for the soccer tournament, “Mouvement des
Jeunes de Campeche” is composed of former members of a gang called “Base One Love.” About a dozen of these
young men came to the Fondation to cause trouble and disturb the activities of a Health Fair last March 2005. The
community rallied behind the Fondation and called the Police. These young men could have easily ended up in jail for
disruptive and harmful behaviors if it were not for the intervention of our in-house psychiatrist. Dr. Simon’s intervention
redirected their energy for trouble and violence towards more constructive objectives.
Today, Dr. Simon is the consultant for their committee; he has been advising them on improving their image in the
community by engaging in constructive activities, thus their involvement and management of the Soccer Tournament
under the patronage of Fondation Bienfaisance. Fondation Bienfaisance wants to promote this kind of behavior
modification by the creation of and accessibility to alternatives and options. You can help make a difference in the lives
of these young people by sponsoring a program or activity.
The Final game took place Sunday September 4th 2005. School reopened the following day.
Fondation Bienfaisance awarded trophies to the top three teams and medals to the other thirteen participating teams.

,Mouvement des Jeunes de Campeche.
Campeche est une bidonville entourée de nombreuses autres ou malgré toute la misère qui ronge la population, il y a pas de
loisirs ni services sociaux. Son terrain renommé jadis pour sa capacité d'organiser des championnats de fotball avec succès est
rempli de gens le soir, venant implorer Dieu car les besoins primaires tels la nourriture, l'eau et l'électricité ne sont pas
satisfaits.
Aujourd'hui plus que jamais, le terrain est bombé de gens même durant le jour par la conjoncture actuelle créant une migration
anormale d'une population abandonnant les autres bidonvilles assiegées par des bandits, pour venir s'installer dans la zone.
Fondation Bienfaisance, dans sa mission d'alleger les souffrances de la population et dans le but de diminuer les risques de
contamination par HIV et reduire les grossesses à bas age, a conquis desormais le coeur des jeunes de la zone par ces
activités.
Mais les choses ne sont pas faciles actuellement. La population , les jeunes attendent encore beaucoup sans penser que
Fondation Bienfaisance n’est pas encore en mesure de solutionner tous leurs problemes n'ayant pas suffisament de moyens
faute de subvention. Les activités a caractère social tels le football, la danse , la musique que Fondation Bienfaisance a pu
réaliser durant les semaines antérieures ont epuisé nos ressources économiques et comme il faut achever un exploit deja
reussi, nous comptons deployer toutes nos forces pour la clôture qui se fera le dimanche 4 Septembre prochain. Des filles
venant de ces quartiers ont formé une troupe de danse, elles performeront durant la mi- temps faisant la joie des spectateurs.
La musique sera controlée par un DJ.
